COMPARING CSA , TSA AND Volumes (RIGHT CIRCULAR CYLINDER)

Activity :To compare C.S.A (Curved Surface Area ), T.S.A.(Total Surface Area) and Volumes of two right circular cylinders formed from rectangular sheets having same dimensions.

Material Required : Coloured Paper , Cello tape , Pair of scissors

Procedure:

Take two rectangular sheets of paper of dimension 22cm x 10 cm each.

Gently curve first sheet along its length (22 cm) to get a cylinder .

  • Calculate the radius of base and top circular shapes using formula of circumference of circle. (Hint : Circumference of base = 22 cm)
  • Calculate C.S.A. , T.S.A and Volume using formulae.
  • Now, take the second sheet of dimension and gently curve it along its breadth (10 cm) to get a cylinder.

  • Calculate the radius of base and top circular shapes of the second cylinder using formula of circumference of circle. (Hint : Circumference of base = 10 cm)
  • Calculate C.S.A. , T.S.A and Volume using formulae.
  • Now, compare the results.
