CUBE

Cube

Definition

*a three-dimensional solid object bounded by six square faces, facets or sides, with three meeting at each vertex.
*can also be called a regular hexahedron and is one of the five Platonic solids.
*special kind of square prism, of rectangular parallelepiped and of 3-sided trapezohedron.

AREA

Total area of all the 6 square faces

VOLUME

Height x base x length

CUBOID

Cuboid

Definition

A cuboid is a box-shaped object. It has six flat sides and all angles are

right angles.

And all of its faces are rectangles.

It is also a prism because it has the same cross-section along a length.

In fact it is a
rectangular prism.

If at least two of the lengths are equal then it can also be called a

square prism
.

AREA

2 ( height x width + height x length +width x length )

VOLUME

height x width x length

CONE

Cone

Definition

=>
one is a three-dimensional geometric shape that tapers smoothly from a flat, round base to a point called the apex or vertex.

=> the solid figure bounded by a plane base and the surface (called the lateral surface) formed by the locus of all straight line segments joining the apex to the perimeter of the base.
=> a shape whose base is a circle and whose sides taper up to a point.

AREA

πr2 + πrl

VOLUME

1/3 x Area of base x Height

1/3 x πr^2 x h

SPHERE

Sphere

Definition

A sphere is a symmetrical geometrical object. In non-mathematical usage, the term is used to refer either to a round ball or to its two-dimensional surface.

It is perfectly symmetrical

It has no edges or vertices

It is not a polyhedron

All points on the surface are the same distance from the center

AREA

Surface Area = 4 × π × r^2

VOLUME

Volume = (4/3) × π × r^3

CYLINDER

Cylinder

Definition

Is a three-dimensional geometric shape
It has a flat base and a flat top
The base is the same as the top, and also in-between
It has one curved side
Because it has a curved surface it is not a polyhedron.

AREA

Surface Area = 2 × π × r × (r+h)

VOLUME

Area of the circle: π × r^2

Height: h

Volume = Area × Height = π × r^2 × h

PYRAMID

Pyramid

Definition

When we think of pyramids we think of the Great Pyramids of

Egypt
.

They are actually Square Pyramids, because their base is a

Square.

A pyramid is a shape where the outer surfaces are triangular and

converge at a point. The base of a pyramid is usually trilateral or

quadrilateral (but may be of any polygon shape), meaning that a

pyramid usually has four or five faces.

AREA

Surface Area:

1/3 × [Base Area] × Height

VOLUME

Volume:

1/3 × [Base Area] × Height
